Rent a Car

Bring the following items:

  • Driver's License (Any person who intends to drive)

  • Passport (Any person who intends to drive)

Before Departure
  • Rental Terms and Conditions will be prepared. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask the shop staff. After confirming the Terms and Conditions, please sign it and pay the estimated rental charges.

  • Check if there are any scratches or dents on the car with the shop staff before departure.

  • Adjust the seat and mirror, and remember to fasten both your front and rear seat-belts.

Return the Car
  • Fill the tank at the nearest gas station before you return the car. (If you do not, the prescribed fuel charge depending on mileage will be charged.)

  • Please contact the shop you rented the car from in advance if you decide to rent it longer. (A prescribed penalty will be charged if you overrun your scheduled rental hours without prior notice.)

  • Any customer is not allowed to return the car with key-in at the shop parking lot.

    Please return the car with your car key at the shop counter, and make the face-to-face return procedure with the shop staff. Otherwise, any customer is required to pay penalty for breach of contract.

  • After arriving at the returning shop, the shop staff will check the car if there are any scratches or dents. Any excess or deficit will then be adjusted.

  • Be sure to take all of your belongings out of the car.

Insurance/coverage included in the car rental rates

Basic coverage (Insurance and coverage included in the car rental rates)

In the event of an accident during the rental period, Toyota Rent a Car will provide the coverage within the indemnity limit.

Bodily injury liability

Unlimited per person (including the coverage amount for mandatory vehicle liability insurance)

Property damage liability

Unlimited per accident [self-pay (deductible): 50,000 yen]

Vehicle damage liability

Up to actual cash value of the vehicle per accident [self-pay (deductible): 50,000 yen; 100,000 yen for a bus or a large cargo vehicle]

Personal injury liability

Up to 30,000,000 yen per person

Toyota Rent a Car will provide the coverage for an injury (including death or physical impediment) caused by a car accident of the passenger regardless of rating blame (the percentage of blame for the accident) of the driver. (The limit is 30,000,000 yen: the damage will be calculated according to the criteria specified in the insurance clause.)

Note :Cases where insurance coverage MAY NOT APPLY

  • Failure to report to the police after the accident (no official traffic accident certificate)

  • Any accident caused by driving by a person other than the registered driver at the time of the rental

  • Any accident caused by driving without a valid driving license

  • Any accident caused by driving under the influence of alcohol

  • Any accident caused by an unauthorized extension of the rental period

  • Any other violation of the terms and conditions specified in the rental agreement, e.g. theft of the vehicle while it is left with the key inside, etc.

*A customer will be responsible for any damage exceeding the aforementioned self-pay expenses or indemnity limit.
*If the accident falls under the category where the insurance clause does not admit payment of insurance, TOYOTA Rent a Car will not provide the coverage. Also, please note that a lack of official traffic accident certificate issued by the police may result in no coverage.

List of other items a customer will be responsible for:

1) The particulars regarding tires or wheel caps

  • For exchanging with spare tires, please use roadside assistance provided by the specified nonlife insurance company or a customer should exchange it by him/herself.

  • In case a customer experiences flat tires of the vehicle without spare tires, please do not use the repair kit prepared in the vehicle. Instead, request roadside assistance provided by a nonlife insurance company. Roadside assistance will send the customer to the nearest auto-repair shop, etc. (No cost will be incurred as long as it meets the conditions of roadside assistance specified by the nonlife insurance company.)

  • In case emergency measures are required with a repair kit for flat tires prepared in the vehicle, the customer shall bear the cost for the repair kit for flat tires.

  • A customer shall bear repair costs for flat or damaged tires, a cost for new tires and a labor charge if a tire exchange is required, and a cost for the lost wheel caps. In case wheels are damaged, it will be subject to non-operation charge.

  • - In case of exchanging with new tires, the customer should contact the store where he/she rented a car in advance. Generally, we request to exchange with tires equivalent to the damaged ones.

2) Non-operation Charge (NOC)

If a vehicle requires repair or cleaning due to a traffic accident, theft, break down, defacement, or other causes, a customer may be charged the following amount to compensate business activities during the period:

If a customer drives a rental car and returns it to the specified shop

20,000 yen

If a customer cannot drive a rental car and does not return it to the specified shop

50,000 yen

*Even though the vehicle is still operable, 50,000 yen shall be charged to the customer unless the rental car is returned to the shop properly (e.g. abandoning a vehicle on the street, etc.)

Exclusion of Liability Compensation System (If you prefer to eliminate self-pay expenses in case of a traffic accident.)
  • It is an option where the customer is exempted from bearing his/her self-pay expenses (deductibles) as a portion of insurance in case of a traffic accident.

  • Exclusion of Liability Compensation System fee: 1,080 yen (including tax)* /24 hours

    * 2,160 yen (including tax)/24 hours for vehicles with license number type 1 or 2

  • Exemption from self-pay expenses (deductibles) -A customer will be exempted from self-pay expenses for property damage liability and vehicle damage liability.

  • Self-pay expenses → Exemption

    • 50,000 yen for property damage

    • 50,000 yen* for vehicle damage

    • * 100,000 yen for a bus/large cargo vehicle

Toyota Rent-a-Car Safety Double Plan (If you prefer to eliminate the payment of Non-Operation Charge (NOC) in addition to being exempted from self-pay expenses in case of a traffic accident)

A new plan offers a Exclusion of Liability Compensation System and indemnity from payment of Non-Operation Charge (NOC) as a set. Additional payment of 540 yen (including tax) besides the Exclusion of Liability Compensation System doubles security and support. Additionally, coverage of repair charges for flat tires or a mere loss of hubcaps will be included.

Rate for Toyota Rent-a-Car Safety Double Plan: 1,620 yen (including tax)* /24 hours

* 2,700 yen (including tax)/24 hours for vehicles with license number type 1 or 2

1)Exemption from self-pay expenses (deductibles) -A customer will be exempted from self-pay expenses for property damage liability and vehicle damage liability.

  • Self-pay expenses → Exemption

    • 50,000 yen for property damage

    • 50,000 yen* for vehicle damage

    *100,000 yen for a bus/large cargo vehicle

2) Exemption from paying Non-operation Charge (NOC)

If a vehicle requires repair or cleaning, etc. due to a traffic accident, theft, break down, defacement, or other causes, the customer shall be exempted from paying the expenses to compensate business activities during the period.

NOC →Exemption
  • If a customer drives a rental car and returns it at the expected shop: 20,000 yen

  • If a customer cannot drive a rental car and does not return it at the expected shop: 50,000 yen*

*Even though the vehicle is still operable, 50,000 yen shall be charged to a customer unless the rental car is returned to the shop properly (e.g. abandoning a vehicle on the street, etc.)

3)The expenses for exchanging flat tires or repairing a mere loss/damage of hubcaps will be not charged to a customer.* It also covers the expense for an emergent tire failure.

*Repair costs for the broken tires, costs for new tires and a labor charge if a tire exchange is required, costs for the lost hubcap or costs of the wheel if a wheel is damaged will not be charged.

Important reminder when applying for Toyota Rent-a-Car Safety Double Plan:

  • For exchanging with spare tires, please use roadside assistance provided by the specified nonlife insurance company or the customer should exchange it by him/her.

  • In case a customer experiences flat tires of the vehicle without spare tires, please do not use the repair kit mounted on the vehicle. Instead, request roadside assistance provided by a nonlife insurance company. Roadside assistance will send a customer to the nearest auto-repair shop, etc. (No cost will be incurred as long as it meets the conditions of roadside assistance specified by the nonlife insurance company.)

  • In case of exchanging with new tires, the customer should contact the shop where he/she rented a car in advance. Generally, we request to exchange with tires equivalent to the damaged one (A customer shall bear any additional cost.)

  • We may request a customer to pay for the expenses temporarily for repairing or purchasing tires. In that case, we will reimburse the cost in exchange for the receipt at the shop when returning the vehicle.
